The competitive advantages of Neoballast over conventional ballast are the following:
– 20% reduction in overall stiffness
– 25% reduction in tension under the ballast layer
– 54% more energy dissipation
– 70% less degradation
Likewise, in the case of gauge in tunnels, 30 cm of conventional ballast is equivalent to 22-25 cm of Neoballast.
And in terms of noise and vibration, 30 cm of conventional ballast and the 25 mm blanket under ballast is equivalent to 30 cm of Neoballast.
Contribution to the SDGs
The development of the Neoballast solution is part of the progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the action plan set out in the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.
Our technology provides a significant mechanical improvement with reduced wear and maintenance of the material, as well as being a suitable solution for tamping and maintaining impermeability. In addition, Neoballast enhances an extension of the service life for the ballast, while minimising noise and vibrations.
These features enable us to contribute to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by improving infrastructure and making it safer, more affordable and sustainable.
Furthermore, Neoballast has other environmental benefits, as it is made from end-of-life tyres and its production requires less extraction of natural aggregate, as well as the possibility of using limestone and/or recycled aggregate. In this way, we help to make the manufacture of this material sustainable and efficient, in line with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
